One Step At A Time

Sometimes, the best thing we can do for ourselves is to not look at the mountains in front of us. We can get so overwhelmed by our situations and circumstances that we can lose sight of where God is in the story.

The Israelites followed God's 'pillar of light' as He led them to the edge of the Red Sea in Exodus. When they camped on the shore and saw the vast army of Pharaoh approaching, they were terrified. They saw an army behind them, and waves of water in front of them. In the midst of their circumstances, they had forgotten about the light that had guided them out there.

Moses' words to the people were, "Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will work for you today…” (Exodus 14:13)

Oftentimes in life, I need this reminder. This season I'm in right now is packed full of situations and circumstances outside of my control. Thanks to coronavirus, this year does not look like what I thought it was going to look like. I’m in a different season than I thought I would be in and I wasn’t prepared for it. And the idea of not knowing what things will look like in these next few months is scary.

But what does it look like to fully lean on God in trust?

It looks like choosing not to hold myself up, but allowing myself to fall into Him. Choosing to follow the light that leads me through the wilderness to the shore of the Red Sea, and trusting that God is with me where He calls me.

I have to take my focus off of the mountain in front of me, and turn my eyes to the guiding light that brought me here — and just remember to take it one step at a time.
